Arthurs Tavern

Located on Grove Street, just off the Christopher St Subway, Arthur's is a jazz bar that attracts a wide variety of locals with its soulful music. Every night of the week around 9pm there is a free, live show that has never let me down. New Orleans jams, jazz, blues ... the crowd loves it and the whole experience is uplifting.

Every Monday night for the past 20 plus year the same band has played at Arthurs. One old man rocks clarinet solos. The crowd on Mondays are clearly regulars.

The best part about Arthurs is the music and ambience. It has a non-pretenious pub-feel, small and woody, with Christmas lights as their differentiating decor. But what makes Arthurs stand out to me is that it feels like old New York ... a west-side classic.

Tips: Drinks are on the pricey side ($6 beers, $9 well drinks) since there is no cover. Get there early to get a cozy seat.
